Perform a systematic first-trimester fetal anatomic survey—including evaluation of the head and brain, face, heart, abdomen, spine, and extremities—using optimized transabdominal and transvaginal imaging techniques.
Recognize normal first-trimester fetal anatomy and the sonographic features of major structural anomalies detectable during this period, including how these findings may differ from their appearance in the second trimester.
Identify technical limitations and potential imaging pitfalls—including fetal size and position, maternal body habitus, and gestational age—and accurately document findings to support clear communication with the interpreting physician.
