Hi, I'm Ellen!

I'm the founder and CEO of Sona and a mom of two. For more than a decade, I've had the privilege of working intimately within the ultrasound industry, collaborating closely with sonographers, OB/GYNs, and dedicated office teams.

In that time, I witnessed firsthand how much families cherish their ultrasound moments, but also the practical challenges providers faced and how outdated and limited the patient experience had become. Even as technology advanced, most parents were still leaving appointments with just a thermal printout that fades over time – no video, nothing to easily share, and nothing that truly captured the magic of the moment. This created a disconnect for families and a missed opportunity for practices.

When I went through pregnancy myself, the need for change hit even harder. You fall in love with every little heartbeat, every image — and you want to hold onto it, share it, relive it. It became clear that a solution was needed that served both the crucial needs of the healthcare provider and the emotional desires of the patient.

That’s why I founded Sona: to give families a better, more connected way to experience and preserve those early memories — and equally, to give providers a simple, secure, and intuitive way to deliver them directly from the machine to the patient’s phone. Sona was built to make this moment more meaningful for everyone: parents, providers, and the people who love them. We are honored to be part of our partner practices and every patient’s journey.
